2021 Golf Classic – An Overwhelming Success

July 23, 2021

Well, seven-hundred and thirty-five days later, the board of directors held their fifteenth NH Legends of Hockey Golf Classic on July 16 at Stonebridge Country Club in Goffstown.

The event was kicked off with a message from John Normand, President of the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey (Legends). John asked to have a moment of silence and join us in remembering our Hall of Fame member(s) who have passed since our 2019 Golf Classic. Red Gendron, Seaver Peters and Dick Bradley as well as other hockey friends who have passed away. Former board members Father Robert Marchand and Paul Comeau – Paul Leonard, Leo Callahan, Ryan Frew and JM Sahr.

One hundred and twenty-eight players enjoyed a wonderful (but humid, but escaped any rain) day. We received thirty-one generous sponsorships lead by St. Paul’s School and Eastern Propane & Oil. In addition, ninety-three individuals and businesses donated wonderful certificates for our raffle and auction, all of which made our Golf Classic an overwhelming success.

2021 Golf Classic

April 28, 2021

We are back! After Covid took out the 2020 tournament, our 15th Golf Classic will be held on Friday July 16, 2021 at the Stonebridge Country Club in Goffstown, NH. Tee time begins with our usual 10:30 AM shotgun start with re-registration starting at 8:45 AM.

We will be following any Covid protocols in place at that time. However, I’m sure you are all used to masks (and tired of them) as well as the 6 feet social distancing guideline if things haven’t improved further by that date.

We will be accepting the first 132 golfers and we are anticipating a sellout! So please talk it over with your buddies and send along your registration and check(S). Hopefully we will reach that number well before the deadline.

The funds raised help us continue our mission of honoring, celebrating and preserving the rich ice hockey history in New Hampshire and to support the development of hockey throughout the Granite State.

The New Hampshire Legends of Hockey is a New Hampshire non-profit corporation and is a self-governing, 501(c)(3) organization (tax ID: 56-2421910).

Foursomes are filling up quickly so if you’d like to play, or can help by sponsoring and or volunteering, please contact Executive Director Jim Hayes at hayes743@comcast.net or 603-731-4168.  Click here for the 2021 Golf Classic brochure.

You can also pay with a credit card on the Golf Classic event page. Player fees are $150.00 per person. If paying for more than yourself, please list names of each participant.

Shown above in center, Scott Citroni, reacts just after knocking in his ball for a Hole N One on the 4th Hole back in 2017.  This was the first ever Hole N One in the previous twelve years, and still the only one. From this day fourth will be called “The Scott Citroni 4th Hole.”

Our mission is simple: “We honor, celebrate and preserve New Hampshire’s rich ice hockey history and support the development of hockey”.

Sponsorships and Player Registration and payment deadline is Friday June 25, 2021. However, we are anticipating a full field of 132 so register early.

    Golf Classic Deadline Nearing

    June 8, 2018

Holed out: As Dave Masinick holes the birdie putt on the way to a 60, teammates from L to R celebrate: Dennis Murphy, Al Gilbert and Joe Vallieres.

Well the golf courses seem to be in great shape throughout the state and the Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals were just crowned – sadly that means hockey is over for another season.

On the other hand, that allows us to focus on golf and our upcoming thirteenth Annual Golf Classic on Friday July 13th at the Stonebridge Country Club.  The horn will sound at 10:30 am for another wonderful day of camaraderie.

While more than 100 players have registered, we still have room for a few foursomes and singles.  In addition, Sponsorships are available though the deadline of June 22nd.

Annual Golf Classic July 13, 2018

Ah, the Stanley Cup Finals are just weeks away, the golf courses are open and our 13th Annual Golf Classic will be held at the Stonebridge Country Club on Friday July 13, 2018.  It’s a shotgun start which begins at 10:30 am, allowing you time to make an appearance at your office and join us for the beautiful weather, guaranteed!

If you’d like to play, or can help by sponsoring and or volunteering, please contact Executive Director Jim Hayes at hayes743@comcast.net or 603-731-4168.  Click here for the 2018 Golf Classic brochure.

Can you believe it? Shown above in center, Scott Citroni, reacts just after knocking in his ball for a Hole N One on the 4th Hole. Director Dave Beauchamp (green jacket) and others react. This was the first ever Hole N One in twelve years, and from this day forth will be called “The Scott Citroni 4th Hole.”

Our mission is simple: “We honor, celebrate and preserve New Hampshire’s rich ice hockey history and support the development of hockey”.

This year, the Legends will introduce Robert Sprague and the memory of Boston hickory golf-club and golf ball maker G.S. Sprague (1870 – 1928).  Robert is the great-grandson of Boston clubmaker G.S. Sprague, and portrays his great-grandfather at charity golf events throughout New England – will join us!

ON ONE OF THE PAR THREE HOLES, you’ll have the chance to hit one of his 1912 mesh golf balls and see how well you like Mr. Sprague’s best hand-forged mashie irons “using only the best native New Hampshire hickory shafts”.  G.S. Sprague’s factory – located in Boston’s North End – hand crafted over 1,000 golf playing sets annually and hand-formed over 2,000 new mesh balls.

12th Annual Golf Classic Another Big Hit

    August 3, 2017

Thank you to everyone that supported our Twelfth Annual Golf Classic, presented by Bauer. Our event was held July 14 at the Stonebridge Country Club in Goffstown.

Our event was kicked off with a message from John Normand, President of the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey (Legends). He gave special thanks and recognition to our Presenting Sponsor, Bauer (Global Headquarters) of Exeter, NH, our Title Sponsor, The Rinks at Exeter, our perennial Gold Sponsor, St. Paul’s School of Concord as well as Co-Title Putting Sponsors, Club National and Charles Schwab, both of Nashua.

“We are extremely grateful to all the players, sponsors, contributors (gifts in kind) and volunteers that help make this event one of the best in the state, each and every year”.

For perhaps the first time in twelve years, it was cooler, but that meant comfortable weather to spend time with our hockey family and friends. Again, we enjoyed another near-capacity field and with generous contributions this year’s Golf Classic was again one our most successful events.

More than 500 photos from Matt Parker Photography can be viewed and or purchased for a nominal fee.

In addition, John acknowledged two names from the Class of 2017 who will be inducted October 22 at Concord’s Grappone Center at the Sixteenth Annual Legends of Hockey Induction Ceremony. With us today is Roger Letourneau who played for Berlin High School, the Berlin Maroons, the Concord Eastern Olympics and the Concord Budmen. In addition, Mark Thurston entered a foursome, his grandfather George “Fuzzy” Thurston was from Exeter and was a standout player for the Amesbury Maples senior team for decades, playing his last game in 1969 at the age of 66 for the Amesbury Alumni. He was invited to be part of a “Boston Olympic Team” that traveled to Europe in 1932 for a two-month hockey tour that saw them win 23 of 24 games against national teams across the continent.

The Legends will also pay tribute to the New England College men’s and women’s hockey programs.
