Vermont girls rally to beat New Hampshire at Make-A-Wish All-Star Hockey Classic

August 15, 2021

Alex Abrami | Burlington Free Press

Essex’s Abigail Robbins scored the go-ahead goal and then assisted on the insurance tally during a three-minute span of the third period, guiding the Vermont girls to a 4-2 victory over New Hampshire in the Make-A-Wish All-Star Hockey Classic at Stowe Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Vermont ended a four-game skid to New Hampshire in the series.

On the boys side, New Hampshire seized the second game of the Twin State doubleheader with a 3-0 shutout of Vermont.

All proceeds from the event go to fulfill special wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions. The Hockey Classic, a battle between the best recently graduated high school seniors from the rival states, has raised more than $285,000 toward those wishes.

At 10:23 of the third, Robbins buried a feed from Burlington/Colchester’s Kendall Muzzy for a 3-2 Vermont advantage at 10:23. At 13:52, Hannah Himes of Essex tallied the final goal, with Robbins and Rutland’s Alexis Patterson assisting.

2021 Golf Classic – An Overwhelming Success

July 23, 2021

Well, seven-hundred and thirty-five days later, the board of directors held their fifteenth NH Legends of Hockey Golf Classic on July 16 at Stonebridge Country Club in Goffstown.

The event was kicked off with a message from John Normand, President of the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey (Legends). John asked to have a moment of silence and join us in remembering our Hall of Fame member(s) who have passed since our 2019 Golf Classic. Red Gendron, Seaver Peters and Dick Bradley as well as other hockey friends who have passed away. Former board members Father Robert Marchand and Paul Comeau – Paul Leonard, Leo Callahan, Ryan Frew and JM Sahr.

President John Normand speaking with Steve Murphy

One hundred and twenty-eight players enjoyed a wonderful (but humid, but escaped any rain) day. We received thirty-one generous sponsorships lead by St. Paul’s School and Eastern Propane & Oil. In addition, ninety-three individuals and businesses donated wonderful certificates for our raffle and auction, all of which made our Golf Classic an overwhelming success.

Six-hundred and twenty-two photographs taken by Matt Parker Photography can be viewed at no charge and any can be purchased for a nominal fee. Please visit his site by clicking here. You may enter your name in search bar to view photos. There is a small sample of photos at the bottom of this article.

With us today is Brian Murphy who retired this past spring as an NHL official. Click here to read a press release for the five incoming Hall of Famers.

Brian Murphy, Vic Stanfield, Ken “The Captain” McKinnon and Ron Noble

The hockey history of boy’s and girl’s teams at Exeter High School will be honored and lastly, the Stanley Cup is tentatively scheduled to be at our event.

2021 Golf Classic

April 28, 2021

We are back! After Covid took out the 2020 tournament, our 15th Golf Classic will be held on Friday July 16, 2021 at the Stonebridge Country Club in Goffstown, NH. Tee time begins with our usual 10:30 AM shotgun start with re-registration starting at 8:45 AM.

We will be following any Covid protocols in place at that time. However, I’m sure you are all used to masks (and tired of them) as well as the 6 feet social distancing guideline if things haven’t improved further by that date.

We will be accepting the first 132 golfers and we are anticipating a sellout! So please talk it over with your buddies and send along your registration and check(S). Hopefully we will reach that number well before the deadline.

The funds raised help us continue our mission of honoring, celebrating and preserving the rich ice hockey history in New Hampshire and to support the development of hockey throughout the Granite State.

The New Hampshire Legends of Hockey is a New Hampshire non-profit corporation and is a self-governing, 501(c)(3) organization (tax ID: 56-2421910).

Foursomes are filling up quickly so if you’d like to play, or can help by sponsoring and or volunteering, please contact Executive Director Jim Hayes at hayes743@comcast.net or 603-731-4168.  Click here for the 2021 Golf Classic brochure.

You can also pay with a credit card on the Golf Classic event page. Player fees are $150.00 per person. If paying for more than yourself, please list names of each participant.

Shown above in center, Scott Citroni, reacts just after knocking in his ball for a Hole N One on the 4th Hole back in 2017.  This was the first ever Hole N One in the previous twelve years, and still the only one. From this day fourth will be called “The Scott Citroni 4th Hole.”

Our mission is simple: “We honor, celebrate and preserve New Hampshire’s rich ice hockey history and support the development of hockey”.

Sponsorships and Player Registration and payment deadline is Friday June 25, 2021. However, we are anticipating a full field of 132 so register early.
