Class of 2022 Announced

June 3, 2022

The New Hampshire Legends of Hockey is pleased to announce the five inductees who will make up their 20th Hall of Fame class.

Chris Brown will be inducted as a builder, while David Flint, David Lassonde and Tom Moulton are being inducted as coaches, as is Ryan Frew, who is being inducted posthumously. In addition, the Kimball Union Academy boys and girls hockey history will also be honored this year. The boys program began in 1935-36 while the girls team began in 1984-85.

They will be formally enshrined during a ceremony on Oct. 23. The ceremony will be held at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord beginning with a social hour at 11:30 a.m.

The Hall of Fame Induction luncheon tickets will be available to the general public on Sept. 1. Please contact executive director Jim Hayes at hayes743@comcast.net or (603) 731-4168.

Here is a closer look at the inductees.

Chris Brown: A former player and coach with Concord Youth Hockey and Concord High School, Brown is responsible for creating and organizing the popular 1883 Black Ice Pond Hockey Tournament, whose mission was to honor past hockey history and support recreational projects in the Concord area. Approximately 700 players take part in the annual event at White Park in Concord, N.H., making up nearly 100 teams that compete in eight divisions over a three-day weekend. Over the 11 years the non-profit has donated over $550,000 back to the local community and local booster clubs

David Flint: The native of Merrimack, N.H., has been the head coach of the women’s hockey team at Northeastern University since 2008 and has led that program to a.287-137-41 record over 13 successful seasons. During his tenure, the Huskies have won five Hockey East tournament championships and played in six NCAA tournaments. This past season, they went 31-5-2, won Hockey East and lost to Minnesota-Duluth in overtime in the NCAA semifinals. In 2020-21 he was named the national Division 1 Coach of the Year after guiding NU to the national championship game. Prior to Northeastern, Dave coached the St. Anselm College women’s team for 13 years. He was also an assistant coach with the 2010 U.S. Women’s Olympic team along with 2008 and 2009 World Championship teams.

David Lassonde: USA Hockey’s national goaltending coach, Lassonde grew up in Rochester, N.H., and played at Spaulding High School and Providence College. Prior to USA Hockey, Lassonde spent more than three decades as a Division 1 assistant coach, including 23 years at the Granite State’s two D-1 programs, Dartmouth (2014-20) and UNH (1988-91 and 1997-2011). His tenure consisted of 1,227 games that saw his teams make 20 trips to the NCAA tournament and five trips to the Frozen Four. With USA Hockey he’s coached in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, and four World Junior Championships, among other international events including the World Deaf Ice Hockey Championships (2017).

Tom Moulton: A native of Danvers, Mass., and a longtime resident of the Seacoast region, Moulton was an assistant coach for the U.S. Sled Hockey Team that won its first gold medal at the Paralympic Games in 2002, after entering the event ranked sixth out of six teams. He remained an assistant to former Boston Bruins great Rick Middleton on that U.S. team, and has been an ardent supporter of youth hockey, men’s league hockey and sled hockey for decades, both in New Hampshire and at the national level. It was just announced that their 2002 Sled team was selected for induction into the Olympic & Paralympic Hall of Fame.

Ryan Frew: A Concord, N.H., native who grew up playing on state champion Concord High School teams alongside, among others, Olympic gold medalist Tara Mounsey, Frew coached junior hockey in the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs organization from 2004 until his death in 2020, making him the longest-tenured junior coach from New Hampshire ever. Highlights include his Jr. Monarchs team winning the USA Hockey Junior National Championship in 2012 and also winning an Eastern Hockey League championship in 2016.
