NH’s Ben Lovejoy Hoists Stanley Cup

June 30, 2009

This past spring Ben Lovejoy realized the dream of any kid who ever laced up a pair of skates. . . raising the coveted Stanley Cup. Although Ben did not play in this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs he did play in two NHL regular season games with the champion Pittsburgh Penguins. He also played in 76 regular season games and 12 play-off games for Pittsburgh’s AHL team in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, PA. A defenseman, Ben had 7 goals and 24 assists for 31 points as well as 84 penalty minutes. His +42 rating lead the league and set a franchise record. Ben was selected to represent Team USA in the 2009 AHL All-Star Team and was named to the 2009 AHL All-League Team (Second Team). He was also named his team’s MVD (defenseman).

A NH native, Ben was born in Concord, NH and played his youth hockey in Hanover before heading off to Cardigan Mountain School. Ben played his high school hockey at Deerfield Academy where he was also an All-American lacrosse player and an All-New England soccer player. Ben graduated from Dartmouth College in 2007.

Although Ben did not appear in enough NHL games to get his name on the Cup he did have the opportunity to suit up after the final playoff game and carry the cup.

Ben is off to a great start in the NHL and we are proud the have him representing NH.

Go Ben!
