Senior / Amateur Teams

This list of New Hampshire’s amateur men’s hockey teams has been assembled over time from various sources by the NH Legends of Hockey. Owing to the passage of time and frailty of memory, the list may be incomplete.

GREATER MANCHESTER

Were playing in 1950

Manchester – St. Jeans
The St. Jean de Baptiste Maple Leafs (1930’s)
They played in a rink beside the church on Kelly Street on the West side.

Manchester – St. Anselm
Began play in 1930

Manchester West Pointers

Manchester Beavers
The Beavers began play in 1958-59 and finished in 1962-63.
These players used Doors Pond as their home rink.  They played in an all out-door rink league.  When this team folded they became the Tam O’Shanters.

Tam O’Shanters
They began play in 1963-64 and finished in 1965-66.
Once the Beavers, this team’s fans were among the most noisy and festive in New Hampshire.  A group of bagpipe players often traveled with this team.  When they played the Alpine Club, they would be on one side of the ice and the Alpine Clubs drum and bugle corps on the opposite side.

Alpine Club
They began play in 1963-64 and finished in 1965-66.
Hailing from the West Side of Manchester, this team had a drum and bugle corps that would rise the noise level at their games.  When they played the Tam O’Shanters, they would be on one side of the ice and the Tam O’Shanters bagpipers on the opposite side.

Manchester Blackhawks
They began play in 1965-66 and finished in 1969-70.
The Blackhawks first competed independently and later in the New England Hockey League.  Their games were played at the JFK Coliseum.
The Blackhawks re-joined the New England Hockey League in 1978-79 and finished in 1985-86.

Manchester Monarchs
The Monarchs began play in 1970-71 and finished in 1973-74.
The Monarchs first competed in the New England Hockey League and later in the Can-Am League.  There games were played out of the JFK Coliseum

Busch Blues
The Busch Blues began play in 1986-97 and finished in 1990-91.
The Busch Blues competed in the New England Hockey League and played out of the West Side Arena and JFK Coliseum

GREATER CONCORD

Scared Heart
The Sacred Heart Club of Concord was formed by Father Drapeau in 1929-30 and finished after the 1951-52 season.  They did not play during the 1942-1946 seasons.  On Tuesday night January 8, 1952 the Hearts hosted the U.S. Olympic team prior to the Oslo Olympics and lost 8-6 after leading 5-3 after two periods.  Their games were played at the rink on Pleasant Street at the site of their church and school.

Millville Bruins (1930’s)
The Bruins of Concord began play in the early 1920s, and finished shortly after the formation of the Sacred Heart team in 1929-30.  While they played in Concord, many of their games were also played at Kimball Lake in the center of Hopkinton.

Concord Young Sluggers
The Sluggers began play in 1911

White Park Warriors
The Warriors of Concord began play in 1916

Young I.O.C
The Young I.O.C. of Concord began play in 1911

Concord Hockey Club
The CHC began play in 1927 and finished prior to the formation of the Sacred Heart team.  Their games were played at White Park

Concord Shamrocks
The Shamrocks of Concord began play in 1962-63 and finished in 1966-67.
They competed in the Granite State Hockey League and their games were played at White Park and their last year at the Douglas N. Everett Arena.

Concord Coachmen
The Coachmen began play in 1966-67 season and played through the 1967-68 season.  They competed as an independent team and their games were played at the Douglas N. Everett Arena.

Concord Eastern Olympics
The Olympics began play in 1967-68 and finished in 1973-74.  They competed in the New England Hockey League and the Can-Am League and their games were played at the Douglas N. Everett Arena.

Tri City Coachmen
Played one season during 1974-75.  Players from Concord, Manchester and Nashua combined after the Can-Am League folded.  They competed as an Independent and their games were played at the Douglas N. Everett Arena.

Concord Budmen
The Budmen began play in 1975-76 and finished in 1991-92.  They competed in the New England Hockey League and as an Independent and their games were played at the Douglas N. Everett Arena.

NORTH COUNTRY

Berlin Maroons
The Maroons began play in 1937-38 and finished in 1974.   They won the New England AHA title at the Boston Garden and won # National titles.  They came back in the 1975-76 season in the New England Hockey League as well as independently and continued to play through the 1979 season. The Maroons, who won several New England championships, also won three National Senior A Championships in 1954, 1967 and 1968. They scrimmaged the alumni teams of the Montreal Canadians and Boston Bruins, as well as the 1960 U.S. Olympic Team that beat the USSR in the fabled Notre Dame Arena in Berlin.

North Conway Granites
The Granites began play in 1930

LAKES REGION

Wolfeboro – Abenaqui Indians
They were playing in 1950

Laconia All-Stars
They were playing in 1949

Laconia Lakers
The Lakers began play in 1962-63 and finished in 1965-66.
They competed in the Granite State Hockey League and their games were played locally.

SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Club National
Club National began play in 1923 and continued for more than a decade. Two of their many players, were Ted Stackhouse and Art Lesieur who both played in the National Hockey League.

Nashua Royals
The Royals began play 1951 and finished in 1965-66.
They competed independently and in the Granite State Hockey League and their games were played at JFK.

Nashua Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs began play 1967-68 and finished in 1970-71.
They competed in the New England Hockey League and their games were played at the Garden in Nashua.

SEACOAST

Allain’s Jewelers
Allain’s began play 1962-63 and finished in 1965-66.
Sponsored by a local business they competed in the Granite State Hockey League

Rye Seahawks
The Seahawks began play in 1946-47 and disbanded fourteen years later after the 1959-60 season. They played on a natural, uncovered rink they had constructed on their own beside the Atlantic on Ocean Boulevard (Route 1A) in Rye. In 1951 the Seahawks began playing in the Harvest League at the North Shore Arena in Lynn, MA. By 1955 they were playing in the Merrimack Valley Hockey League. The Seahawks played for the NH Class B Championship in 1950, losing to Laconia. They also played for the 1951 New England Class B Championship in the Boston Garden, losing to the Lynnfield (MA) Knights 2-1 after SIX overtime periods.

Rye Bruins
Played in the GSHL in the 1966-67 season.

The K of C began in 1930
Information stated that an Exeter team was planning to join the GSHL for the 1963-64 season.
