NH Legends of Hockey Induction Ceremony

MANCHESTER, NH - September 10, 2009 - The New Hampshire Legends of Hockey (NHLH) announced today it will hold its 2009 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Sunday, October 18, 2009. The luncheon event will be held at The Event Center at CR Sparks in Bedford, NH. 

"The Induction Ceremony is our organization's premiere annual event and draws a large audience every year," stated Tom Champagne, NHLH's President. "In addition to honoring those that have made a significant contribution to hockey in New Hampshire, it's an opportunity to catch up with old teammates, coaches and fans of hockey."

The NHLH Hall of Fame was established in 2001 to honor New Hampshire's hockey elite --- men and women who have made significant contributions in New Hampshire as players, coaches, officials, builders, or media representatives. This year's inductees include the following, by category:

Coaches: the late Paul "Pop" Whalen of Cornish, Wally Tafe Jr of Manchester and Dick Umile of Portsmouth
Players: Andre "Pref" Prefontaine of Manchester, Jeff Serowik of Dover, MA; and Jon Leonard of Norrkoping, Sweden
Media: Bob Norton of Concord

This year's Ceremony will also feature the history of ice hockey at Notre Dame High School, in Berlin. Notre Dame won an unprecedented 19 NHIAA State Championships along with 1 New England Championship before closing in 1972.

Consistent with its mission of preserving the history of ice hockey in New Hampshire, the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey actively solicits historical, hockey-related artifacts for preservation and display to the general public. Its members work to raise money to preserve the donated artifacts, including historical literature, records, photos, film, clothing, equipment, trophies, etc. Many of those artifacts are currently on display at various locations around the state. The organization continues to seek out New Hampshire-related materials and literature for addition to its ever-growing collection.
