New Hampshire Legends of Hockey Announce 2009 Inductees
"Seven to be inducted into NHLH Hall of Fame in fall ceremony"

MANCHESTER, NH - The New Hampshire Legends of Hockey (NHLH) announced today the Hall of Fame inductees for 2009. Seven inductees from the Coach, Player and Media categories will be honored later this fall. Details of the Induction Ceremony including the date, time and location will be released at a later date.

This year's inductees include the following, by category:

Coaches
: the late Paul "Pop" Whalen of Cornish, Walter Tafe Jr of Manchester, and Dick Umile of Portsmouth
Players: Andre Prefontaine of Manchester, Jeff Serowick of Dover, MA; and Jon Leonard of Norrkoping, Sweden
Media: Bob Norton of Concord

The NHLH Hall of Fame was established in 2001 to honor New Hampshire's hockey elite --- men and women who have made significant contributions in New Hampshire as players, coaches, officials, builders, or media representatives. To date 64 deserving individuals have been inducted.

Each year, the NHLH also selects an honorary hockey team to celebrate at the Induction Ceremony. This year's Ceremony will feature the history of ice hockey at Notre Dame High School, in Berlin. Notre Dame won an unprecedented 19 NHIAA State Championships along with 1 New England Championship before closing in 1972.

To be considered for induction in the Player category, individuals must be either: a) a New Hampshire native who played ice hockey at an exemplary level; or b) an individual who, while an active player, made a significant contribution to the sport of ice hockey in New Hampshire. A player's sportsmanship and character are highly-relevant considerations in our deliberations.

Nominees for induction in the Coach, Official, Builder, and Media categories must have made significant contributions to the sport of ice hockey in the State of New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire Legends of Hockey solicits Hall of Fame nominations from the public, both in media announcements and on its website. To be eligible for consideration, nomination forms with supporting documentation must be submitted to the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey by March 1st of each year.
