Hall of Fame Induction

Manchester Monarchs players model the various jerseys worn by the team over the years as part of the NH Legends of Hockey celebration.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the next Induction Ceremony will be held between Mid-October and mid-November 2009.

Nominations with supporting material are due on April 1, 2009 and should be submitted electronically to Jim Hayes at hayes743@comcast.net.

The Legends also announced they will honor the great Notre Dame High School of Berlin that same day. For the Rams of Notre Dame, hockey all began in 1944-45 largely under the initiative of Father Omer Bousquet. The following year, the Notre Dame Arena was built on the site of the Coulombe Rink in Berlin.

In the very first NHIAA State Championship game, Notre Dame beat the Crimson Tide of Concord 2-0 in 1946-47 in Hanover, NH.

In all, Notre Dame won an unprecedented 19 State Championships (including 57) along with 1 New England Championship in 57. Coach Barney Laroche led them to 13 titles, including the one in 57 by acclamation and was 13-0-1 record in 14 games. Of note, in 1951-52 Berlin tied Notre Dame 2-2 which required a second game which the Rams won 4-0.

Amazingly, Notre Dame lost only one Championship game, that was in 1962-63, losing 3-2 to the Mountaineers of Berlin. In those Championships their record against Berlin was (14-1-1), Concord (2-0-0), Hanover (1-0-0) and Manchester Memorial (1-0-0).

From their first championship on February 23, 1947 against Concord, to their very last game on March 11, 1972 when they beat Manchester Memorial 3-2 in the championship ND ruled high school hockey. For all they achieved, we salute the Rams of Notre Dame!
